Feng Shui ALMANAC

The Feng Shui Almanac, or the Tung Shu, is a table days. These calculations are based on the heavenly branches and earthly stems of the day. These results in a simple to understand table that tells us the most auspicious times to engage in various activities that are outlined below.

Knowing your animal sign also gives you familiarity with the Chinese lunar calendar. You can click here to investigate your animal sign or check any of Lillian Too’s feng shui books to consult the 100 year calendar.

1. Sign a big contract
2. Meet with someone important
3. Attend a job interview
4. Start a new venture
5. Give a keynote address
6. Make a presentation
7. Stand for election
8. Arrange a reconciliation with someone
9. Start on a journey
10. Get married
11. Plan a big party

The date given is based on your local time, minus daylight saving if any. It is important that you do not engage in any of the above activities if it is a bad day for the animal sign you were born under. A simple method used to find a most excellent day for you would be either 6 days before or after the day that is most unlucky for you.

FENG SHUI WOFS helps build a community

As part of its social responsibility, World of Feng Shui (WOFS) Philippines, Inc. has joined forces with Gawad Kalinga (GK), a ‘nation-building’ group dedicated to helping improve the lives of impoverished families in the country. Along with other sponsors, they helped build houses for Pinagsama Village in Western BIcutan, Taguig City.

Last March 30, 2007, the WOFS head office staff led by Ms. Marites Allen went to Pinagsama Village to formally hand over the newly built houses for the said community’s residents. The whole project aims to provide a good jumpstart for the improvement of their lives and their community too. In fact, some have already put up their own general merchandise stores as their family business.

The whole town was in a festive mood that day, and one can only see excitement in the faces of the residents as they receive their new houses.
WOFS Philippines has donated one unit for the village. As the project is still expanding, the WOFS staff also helped out on that day in painting the some of the houses about to be built.

Starting out as a Couples for Christ project aimed to rehabilitate juvenile gangs in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City in 1995, GK has now evolved and extended its mission to other developing countries in dire need of decent housing too. Contrary to what others might think, GK states it does not randomly pick a community, but rather it chooses to award a community whose leaders have nothing but the noblest and sincerest intention to help their constituents.

Incumbent Taguig City Mayor Freddie Tinga and Vice Mayor George Elias were on hand to thank everyone who had devoted their time, money, and efforts for making this dream a reality. Currently, there are four villages named after its sponsors and/or partners, namely: the Poveda GK Village, Fuji Xerox GK Village, Phil-Am Friendship Village, and Makati-West Village. Tinga promises that this would be just the start as the project aims to build 6 more GK villages before the year ends and 30, 000 houses more in ten years in this city.

Aside from WOFS Philippines, also present for the signing of the memorandum of agreement and awarding of units were GK Community Development Foundation’s founders and members. They are: Saint Pedro Poveda Village, Fuji Xerox Philippines, Rotary Culb of Makati-West, Rotary Club of Forbes Park, Rotary Club of Makati-Pasong Tamo, and Rotary Club of ParaƱaque.

FENG SHUI Understanding the Four Pillars in Feng Shui

In Chinese fortune telling, it is of great importance what the Four Pillars reveals. The Four Pillars are quite simply the year, month, day and hour of your birth. Astrologers then calculate the element in which you were born under and whether it is yin or yang.

Now each and every one of your pillars correspond to two elements which is why they are given the names 'heavenly stem' and 'earthly branch'. As there are Four Pillars and two elements for each pillar, there would be a total of eight elements but there is bound to be one element that is missing or lacking and enhancing this missing element is what strengthens an individual's Feng Shui.

Calculating one's personal Four Pillars is something that requires experience as it is a very complicated process. Well known Chinese astrologers have been known to use computers to decipher these intricate calculations so as not to make a mistake which may prove costly to the client's well being or the astrologer's reputation.

And because not everyone has an opportunity to meet in person with these astrologers, Lillian recommendation that you energize all the five elements in your home to be sure you are getting the perfect balance of yin and yang. After all the ultimate aim of Feng Shui is to get all the elements in sufficient doses so that yin and yang hit a perfect balance to harmonize your home. So start learning about what element goes in which sector from the charts and get a compass to help you see where all the sectors go. Good Luck!

FENG SHUI The Four Pillars & the Five Elements

In our last issue, we've mentioned how important it is to enhance the missing elements in your personal space based on the Four Pillars of destiny. However, it would make life a whole lot less complicated by playing it safe. So how do you do that? Simple. All you have to do is to energize all the elements in all the corners of your home. This gives you balance of Yin and Yang.

First, equip yourself with a compass. Next, place furniture, objects and other knick-knacks in these areas to energize the different elements based on its auspicious directions.

The directions and their elements are as follows:

Directions Elements
East and Southeast - Wood
South - Fire
North - Water
West and Northwest - Metal
Southwest and Northeast - Earth

Now, based on the above table, you can use your creativity to arrange furniture and other objects to decorate your home while making the most of what Feng Shui has to offer.

FENG SHUI Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey?

In recent years, Chinese metaphysical subjects such as Feng Shui and Four Pillars of Destiny are capturing worldwide interest. However, there are vast treasures in the ancient Chinese metaphysical subjects and Feng Shui is not even the most representative of them. If you are fascinated by the profound system of Feng Shui and Four Pillars of Destiny, you will be equally interested to explore another even more important subject called "I Ching Divination".

The term I Ching - commonly translated as "Book of Change" - is based on a series of symbols called Trigrams and Hexagrams. These are symbols made up of straight lines - either continuous or broken, to reflect the concept of Yin and Yang in the Universe. According to ancient history, these are symbols invented by a sage called "Fu Si" who lived at least over 6000 years ago. It is recorded that Mr. Fu Si observed the Heaven and Earth and other natural phenomenon. Then he got inspired to create these symbols to represent and interpret the forces of nature.

In the beginning, there are 8 symbols, called the "Ba Gua" or "8 Trigrams". These Trigarms represent the 8 major natural phenomenon as observed by man. They are Heaven, Earth, Fire, Water, Mountain, Lake, Thunder and Wind. Later on, these 8 Trigrams developed into 64 Hexagrams by stacking one Trigram on top of another. Hence they can incorporate a great variety of information and meanings. The superiority of these symbol system is that they are very simple in structure but they incorporated the fundamental nature of Yin and Yang duality of the Universe, and so they are very rich in philosophical content and have been adopted as a tool for divination since the ancient time.

The subject of I Ching is not new to the west. It is perhaps the first Chinese metaphysical subject translated into many foreign languages. However, it is necessary to explain some misunderstanding here. The many versions of I Ching now we find in bookstores is only referring to a book (the Book of Change) complied by King Wen, the Emperor of the Chau Dynasty, and Confucius, the famous Chinese teacher. These 2 authors lived at least 3000 years after the time of Mr. Fu Si. As such, their subjective interpretation of the Hexagrams are not necessarily representative of Mr. Fu Si's original intention. Also neither of these 2 authors are fortune-tellers. They are scholars and politicians. So one can imagine that their version of the I Ching is more on the academic and philosophical side. It is more like a tool for ideology than serve its original purpose - divination and forecasting.

However, as this version of the I Ching compiled by King Wen and Confucius is the only version translated into English, German and other foreign languages, the western people took it as the only way of I Ching divination. Very few are aware of the existence of another more systematic and practical technique of using the I Ching purely for forecasting purpose. We can call this alternative technique as "Fortune-tellers I Ching" in order to differentiate it from King Wen's academic I Ching.

The I Ching technique is basically a tool for asking questions and getting answers. With a question in mind, the first step is to throw 3 coins 6 times to set up the six lines of a Hexagram. Then the next step is to interpret the meaning of the Hexagram resulted from casting the coins. To the layman, they can look up the relevant Hexagram in the King Wen and Confucius I Ching and read their comments. However, as these commentaries are very old, very general and very abstract, it is hard to associate a modern situation with a story in the Warring States about 3000 years ago. As such, the answer as reflected in this manner is far from clear and conclusive.

The professional fortunetellers in Hong Kong, China and Taiwan seldom refer to the book of I Ching by King Wen and Confucius. They take an entirely different approach in interpreting the Hexagram. This system classified the 6 lines of a Hexagram into 5 major categories - Money, Resources, Friends, Power, Intelligence, or 5 type of people - Husband, Wife, Children, Parents, Brothers and Sisters. So that one can easily focus on the relevant subject matter and get clearer answer to the question in mind.

This is a more practical and reliable way of I Ching divination. Unfortunately, as far as I am aware, this system has not been introduced in the English language before, despite there are many English I Ching books in the market.

To demonstrate this interesting system, let us look at an example. The question for this divination is "Who killed Jon Benet Ramsey?"

To use I Ching Divination method, we have to cast 3 metal coins 6 times to get 6 lines for constructing a Hexagram. By casting 3 coins, one can expect 4 possible outcomes:

1. One head means a yang line.
2. Two heads means a yin line.
3. All heads means a yang line changing into yin.
4. All tails means a yin line changing into yang.

After this casting process, a Hexagram will appear with Yin and Yang lines as well as active changing lines showing areas of action. Instead of looking up the book of I Ching for meaning, we will go through a process of labeling each line with 5 elements, 5 aspects of life and 5 category of people. The following is a fully labeled Hexagram relevant to our sample question - who killed JonBenet Ramsey?

Question - Who killed JonBenet?

Month - water
Date - water

I (metal) P (wood) S Tortoise
M (water) Tiger
C (earth) Snake
I (metal) O Earthworm
R (fire) Firebird
C (earth) Dragon

I - intelligence, child
R - resources, parents
M - money, wife
P -power, killer
C - colleagues, brother
JonBenet Ramsey is a little girl in Boulder, Colorado who was found murdered in the basement of her home on Boxing Day, 26/12 in 1996. The murder is still unresolved as of today and even her parents and brother were said to be "under the umbrella of suspicion". The purpose of this I Ching Divination exercise is to find hints to see who is likely to be the killer.

How to interpret this Hexagram to get the answer.

The first step is to establish our focus. In a Hexagram, there are usually 2 areas of focus. Firstly, the type of person or matter we are checking. In our case, it is a child, which is labeled as I, this falls on the 3rd line of the Hexagram - a metal element. The second important area is a line of activity as it is a line revealing the action area related to the question. In the Hexagram, we can see the top line is active. This is a line represented by P, meaning power - a wood element.

By examining these 2 lines we can obtain a message from the Hexagram. The Power line, meaning a "destroyer" or a "killer" is active and in crash with the 3rd line of metal, representing the child. This reflected an action of killing. The wood power line is active and changing into metal which is I also meaning the child, and metal conquers wood, so it seems the child had put up a struggle. Is this resistance successful? When interpreting the strength of an element, we have to look at the seasonal influence which determines which element is strongest during the time of the I Ching Divination. In this sample case, the exercise was done in winter (November) of 1999, a month of water and a date of water. The water support the wood, did not support the metal. As such, the wood killer is stronger than the metal child. So the child was murdered.

Then who is the killer?

In the Hexagram, we only see the Power line - a killer is in action. The other lines R - symbolising parents, and C symbolising brother are quiet and inert. There is no evidence to show that the family members were involved in the killing. So the killer is someone else, perhaps an intruder. What kind of intruder? We can see more information from the list of 6 animals next to the Hexagram. The animal on the top line next to the Power line is tortoise - which is a symbol of theft. So the killer could be a thief.

So this manner of interpretation provides more insight and clarity to understand a situation. If one use the Book of I Ching, one can only see the Hexagram is called "Keeping Still" and the active line in the 6th position is explained as "Peaceful Stillness - a great blessing" which one finds hard to relate to our question.

For students who are already interested in the I Ching, this technique opens up new perspective of using the I Ching with much more accuracy in forecasting and understanding a situation. The labeling is not difficult and it will lead you into yet another new treasure chamber in Chinese metaphysical studies.

FENG SHUI The Fate Of The Titanic

The Chinese has a profound system of fortune-telling called the Four Pillars of Destiny. It is built on the believe that all matters in the world is made up of five fundamental elements - metal, water, earth, fire and wood. by Raymond Lo

22nd May 1999

The Chinese has a profound system of fortune-telling called the Four Pillars of Destiny. It is built on the believe that all matters in the world is made up of five fundamental elements - metal, water, earth, fire and wood. These can be understood as the five basic natural forces behind all matter and all events in the Universe. Even abstract objects such as human destiny - are composed of these five elements and everyone living on earth are subject to the influence of these elements.

To understand the elemental composition of our destiny, all one needs to do is to convert the birhdata into the Chinese calendar which not only is an instrument to record time, but also reflects the elemental influences prevailing at any moment of time. So as soon as we convert a person’s birthdata into the Chinese calendar, immediately we can see a bundle of elements which are the component of our destiny. As there are four vital information involved in our birthdata, namely the Year, the Month, the Day and the Hour of birth, we call each of these information a “Pillar”. Hence the subject is called the “Four Pillars of Destiny”.

This is a very handy and effective tool to peep into the fortune of individuals. All one requires to understand is the implication of the five basic elements and their inter-relationships. There are two basic types of relationships amongst the five elements. The Cycle of Birth is a harmonious kind of relationship with Metal gives birth to Water, Water gives birth to Wood, Wood gives birth to Fire, Fire gives birth to Earth and Earth gives birth to Metal. On the other hand, there is a conflicting kind of relationship called the Cycle of Destruction - where Metal destroys Wood, Wood conquers Earth, Earth controls Water, Water puts off the Fire, and Fire melts the Metal. If one thoroughly understand these two kind relationships, the fortune of a person will be unfolded to your eyes like reading a book.

The movie Titanic is so popular as the public are attracted and deeply moved by the romantic stories of human fate. The sinking of the Titanic is a fateful event. It also provides good materials for metaphysical study as no tragedy and accident in history has been so well documented. There are plenty of materials recording in minor detail the course of the event, minute by minute and even the birth data of some of the prominent passengers are available. I have done a little bit of research into the metaphysical aspect of the tragedy and come up with some interesting results.

The Fateful night is 14/4/1912 and the collision against the iceberg occurred at around 11.40 p.m. Converting this time into the Chinese calendar, we get the following bundle of elements:

Hour

Day

Month

Year
Earth

Metal

Wood

Water
Water

Metal

Water

14/4/1912

11.40 p.m.

It is a year of strong water, an hour of strong water, with a day of strong metal. The metal can be taken to mean the Titanic, which is a massive lump of metal floating in water. In the Earthly branches of the configuration, we see two waters, one metal and one earth. However, advance theory of the Four Pillars of destiny tells us that water is born in the metal Monkey, water is the strongest in the water Rat, and water enters the Grave or Storage in the Earth Dragon. So if the Monkey, the Rat and The Dragon are present at the same time, it means a complete life cycle of water and they will all turn into strong water.

Now let us examine the fateful night again, it happens in the year of the Rat, the month of the Dragon, and on the Day of the Monkey, in the hour of the Rat. So all the necessary elements to make the fierce water - the Rat, the Monkey and the Dragon are present, turning the earth and metal into cold and merciless water of the Atlantic Ocean. The Titanic, symbolised by the Metal element on top, seems to be floating in merciless water, with nothing to anchor on. On the Hour Pillar, there is an earth element on top of water, it symbolises a floating mountain - the gigantic iceberg floating in water next to the metal ship. So the configuration of the elements really paints a picture of the accident - the metal ship and an iceberg floating on water and collided against each other. The vessel hit the iceberg a glancing blow along its starboard bow, the impact and the scratch inflicted serious damage to her hull on the starboardside - the right hand side of the vessel.

This is also reflected in the set of Four Pillars. Looking at the Four Pillars, you can imagine you are right in front of the vessel facing her bow. Then the Earth element appearing in the Hour Pillar is on the right hand-side of the metal element - on the starboard side.

After the impact at about 11.40 p.m. on 14/4, water is entering the vessel’s compartments and she is slowly sinking, and at 12.05 a.m. the Captain ordered to evacuate the vessel and uncover the lifeboats. The vessel was last seen at 2.20 a.m. on 15/4 morning. Its lights blinked once and gone out at 2.15 a.m. The stern was lifted out of water, the bow broke off with a sound like thunder and it plunged into the ocean floor.

Converting this time of sinking into Chinese calendar, we have a different configuration. The Year and the Month Pillars remained the same, but the Day Pillar changed into a Day of Yin metal Rooster, and the Hour Pillar becomes an hour of earth on earth element. Unlike the metal Monkey, which is the birth source of water, the metal Rooster is not able to form a complete water configuration with the Earth Dragon and the Water Rat. So the dominating elements in the morning of 15/4 was no longer water. It becomes a configuration of strong earth, with the metal element surrounded and buried in heavy earth formed by the Month pillar and the Hour pillar. It is later concluded that the Titanic broke into two sections and the bow fell to the sea bottom first and hit the ground with such heavy momentum that the bow was found buried in 65 feet of mud. This is also clearly reflected in the elements of 2.20 a.m. 15/4 when the metal is surrounded by heavy earth.

Another aspect we need to explore is the fate of the passengers. Over 1500 passengers, crew, servants and workers on board perished in the tragedy. Why this tragedy had caused the precious lives of so many people? The main reason is insufficient lifeboats. However, the rescue ship Carpathia arrived at the scene at about 4.00 a.m. Two hours after the sinking of the Titanic. Most of the passengers were given lifejackets so they should be able to tolerate the two hours floating at sea. However, the Carpathia was only able to rescue those in lifeboats. Almost all passengers fallen into the sea were not able to survive the two hours gap mainly because the water is icy cold.

The factor of cold temperature is of vital importance in analysing the fate of the victims in this accident. Amongst the five elements, Fire is the one generating warmth. So if a person died of freezing cold temperature - it means he lost his life because the fire element is lacking. This is exactly the key to examine the destiny of the victims of the Titanic tragedy. If we look at the Four Pillars of the “Night to remember” again, there is absolutely no fire element in the night of 14/4 and the early morning of 15/4/1912. All the elements present are cold metal, water and earth. The lacking of fire element is exactly the cause of death of those who fell into the sea. To prove this point, it is worthwhile picking a few examples to see how such misfortune is reflected in their destiny on the fateful day of 14/4/1912.

The man in the centre of this disaster is Capt. Edward J. Smith who perished with the Titanic on the fateful date of 15/4. The following is his Pillars of Destiny:

He was born on a day of water. Therefore by definition he is a water gentleman. His water element is very strong as it was in the winter season - a season of water, and also there are strong support from two metal elements. The strong presence of water in Capt. Smith’s destiny explained why he choose a career in shipping which is a career of water. The philosophy of Four Pillars of Destiny is a principle of balance. If the water is too strong, it is necessary to provide some elements to weaken the water. As such, we can consider wood and fire as favourable elements to Capt. Smith. The reason is that water has to give birth to wood and to conquer the fire element, thereby spent its energy. On the other hand, we can consider water and metal are unfavourable elements, they will make the strong water stronger and intensify the imbalance in his destiny.

The system Four Pillars of Destiny not only provide insight to human destiny, but also shows the luck which a person will encounter in different stage of his life. This is listed out as a series of elements in pairs, each pair governs ten year of a person’s life. This pairs of elements are called “Luck Pillars” and the number on top of each luck pillar shows the age when a person comes under its influence. Take for example, Capt.Smith’s first luck pillar is Fire and Wood, this luck pillar affected his life from the age of 2 until the age of 12. As fire and wood are his favourable elements, it reflected he was in good luck since childhood.

Thereafter, he had gone through good luck pillars of earth and fire until the age of 62, when he entered a luck pillar of water and metal, indicating bad luck began at that age. Capt. Smith was born in 1850, so 1912 is exactly the year he got into bad luck. Not only the luck pillar is a bad one, the year 1912 was also a year of water on water, reinforcing his unfavourable elements - water. When a person is in bad luck, and there comes a bad year, a bad month and a bad day, disaster will occur.

It is exactly under such bad elemental influences when Capt. Smith brought the Titanic and her over 2000 passengers to disaster. At the age of 62, and on the date of 14/4 and 15/4/1912, there is absolutely no fire element turning up in Capt. Smith’s destiny. Therefore he died with the ship in the icy cold water of the north Atlantic Ocean.

I have also examined the available birthdata of a few victims in this tragedy and all points to the fact that they died owing to lacking in the fire element.

Let us view the situation from a different angle and examine an example of a survivor. This is a gentleman called Mr. Joseph Bruce Ismay. He is the Chairman of the White Star Line - the Company that owned the Titanic. Some people held him responsible for the tragedy as he had told the Captain to go on full speed regardless of the hazard of icebergs, in order to arrive New York earlier to gain more publicity. He was born on 12/12/1862. The following is his pillars of destiny:

Mr. Joseph Bruce Ismay

He is a metal person born in winter with very strong water elements exhausting the strength of his metal. So he needs the support of more metal and earth, which in turn needs support from fire. As such, metal, earth, and fire are his favourable elements. His destiny is dominated by strong water, this obviously placed him in a water business in shipping industry.

Also metal gives birth to water, so water symbolises his creativity and skill. It also means his aggressiveness. This explains why he is adventurous and taking risks at the expense of safety. The heavy concentration of water elements on 14/4 also brought trouble to him, but when 15/4 arrived, the presence of strong earth and metal elements had saved his life. One important factor is that he was 49 year old at the time and he was in a good luck pillar of strong fire. So he would not die like others lacking in fire. He escaped in one of the last lifeboats, leaving behind his passengers, his butler, his secretary, and his reputation. He was blamed for cowardice. But another way of looking at it is that his destiny will not let him died that night.

It is interesting to see that almost all the birthdata of survivors I collected more or less possessed stronger fire in their destiny, which prevented them from the fate of being frozen in the icy cold water.

FENG SHUI The Four Pillars of the 911 Attack on WTC

On 11th Sept. evening time in Melbourne, I am in my hotel room with friends, and we are chatting with the TV on, but the volume is turned down to almost silent mode. Suddenly something on the TV screen captures my attention. It is the picture of two tall buildings with heavy fire and smoke on top, like 2 large candles. Then I turn up the sound, and I am totally shocked by the terrible attack on the World Trade Center twin towers in New York.

The Chinese calendar is a calendar of elements. Any moment of time can be expressed in terms of four pairs of elements. Two elements for the Year, two for the Month, two for the Day and two for the Hour. We call this art the Four Pillars of Destiny. If the moment of time represents the birth data of a child, these elements will reflect his destiny. But if something really serious occurs at such a moment in time, the elements will paint a symbolic picture of what happened. In my previous article widely distributed on the internet, I have used 11.40 p.m. 14th April, 1912 - the moment when the Titanic clashed with the iceberg - to demonstrate that the Chinese calendar for this moment clearly showed the picture of a metal ship colliding with a floating mountain on the starboard side.

Now, the tragedy which occurred in New York at 0845 a.m. 11th September, 2001 is definitely a huge event in human history, so let us look up the Chinese calendar and see what shows up at that fateful moment in time. The following is the Four Pillars of elements obtained by converting the tragic moment into the Chinese calendar.

Hour

Day

Month

Year
Wood

Fire

Fire

Metal
Fire(snake)

Earth(ox)

Metal(rooster)

Fire(snake)

The elements appearing on top are called Heavenly Stems, and the elements underneath are called Earthly Branches. The calendar shows two yin fire elements standing on the Month and Day pillars. Yang Fire is symbol of the Sun, Yin fire is symbol of candle light. It is the more unstable and dangerous fire. So it is often associated with hot temper, explosion and fire disasters. The Chinese character for yin fire looks like a "T" and I often compare this "T" to the shape of a mushroom cloud resulted from a huge explosion. Indeed, I have observed that big explosions and fire disasters often occur on such a T day. An obvious example is the day 6th Aug. 1945 when the first atomic bomb fell on Hiroshima. This is also a T - a Yin fire day.

On 11th Sept. 2001, the Chinese calendar shows double T, so it is not just one tower, but 2 towers on fire. Exactly like 2 ignited candles. The attack took place at 8.45 a.m. which is a wood hour, and such wood ignited the double yin fire.

On the Year pillar, there is a metal element standing. On the Earthly Branches underneath, the animals we see are Snake, Rooster, and Ox. In Four Pillars of Destiny, the 12 animals have various kinds of inter-relationships. The Snake, Rooster and Ox belongs to the metal family and they can combine to form total metal. So the picture I see is a metal element under fire attack, and such metal element stood on a strong metal foundation. What is such strong metal to do with the twin towers? I realize it after reading some articles about the structure of these 2 buildings. They are actually made of plenty of steel which conduct the heat quickly down from the top, causing the metal to deform and melt. Such metal structural design is considered as the cause of the total collapse of both towers quickly after the attack.

So just as the Titanic elements clearly reflected the collision of the ship and the cause of serious casualty due to absence of heat (fire) on that day, the 11th Sept., 2001 elements also shows that the buildings are mostly made of metal so they collapse quickly. I find it really amazing!

The 911 event is a huge tragedy in human history and it is an event worthy of many studies from various angles. Just through looking at the Chinese calendar, we can find more indications. 2001 is a year of the yin metal Snake. So these pair of elements is obviously in focus this year. Indeed, the pair of elements actually pointed out the two most important persons of the year - President George W. Bush, born on 6th July, 1946 and Osama Bin Laden, born on 10th Mar. 1957. If you covert both gentlemen's birthday into the Chinese calendar, you will find they are born exactly on a day of Yin metal Snake! I may as well mention another person in focus this year - her photo has been all over the place the last 2 months - she is the famous Angelina Jolie and she was also born on a day of yin metal Snake!

In my forecast for 2002, the year of the Horse, published in the Chinese Almanac for 2002, I have predicted that "The Year of the Horse, 2002 ……fire sitting underneath its destroyer - water, is a symbol of disharmony and conflict and this may be serious and will lead to war…This could be the sign of a large scale war…It is not easy to pinpoint where the war will break out. But the feng shui of 2002 indicated that East is not a favorable position. So the trouble could involve the East." The Chinese calendar system goes in 60 years cycle. That means the world will experience the same pair of elements every 60 years. The Pearl Harbor attack occurred in 1941, sixty years ago. People are already comparing the WTC attack to Pearl Harbor. In 1942, the whole world was involved in the Second World War. So sixty years later 2002, we can expect the whole world will be in a world war also. But now it looks likely that it will be the whole world against terrorism, not countries fighting against each other.

FENG SHUI The 3 Kinds Of Luck

Have you wondered why some people seem to have all the luck? Why are some people born lucky, with things working out easily for them whereas others have to work hard to achieve little? Why do feng shui enhancers and cures work wonders for some and achieve less for others? The answer is really quite simple. Luck as we know it comprises of 3 portions, namely Heaven Luck (Tie’n Chai’), Earth Luck (Ti Chai’) and Mankind Luck (Ren Chai’).

Heaven Luck is preordained and cannot be changed. In a nutshell, heaven luck will determine when you are born, the location, as well as which family you are born into. Thus, our life to some extent is determined by the day, time and place we were born whether we like it or not. Our parents and the country of birth will affect the quality of our life. Our inborn strengths and weaknesses, characteristics and personality can be revealed through one’s personalized four pillars of destiny or other methods of fortune telling to reveal his or her destiny. The pattern of our luck cycles follows a predictable and logical pattern and not on a random basis. The state of our luck will affect our endeavors and quality of life at a particular point in time and not be the same throughout our life.

Earth luck relates to the kind of luck affected by our surroundings. Of course, we will not be able to make much change to the major scope of our environment. On a broader context, we can include the social, political and economic condition of the country and environment where one works at and this will affect quality of life. A more prosperous, stable and safe country with a cleaner or better environment will enhance one’s quality of life. Likewise, a poorer, politically unstable, war-torn country, or a dirtier environment will affect one’s quality of life. Again, even the physical landscape of our surroundings will play a part in the landscape feng shui of our surroundings. However, the practice of Feng Shui allows us to effect changes within the realm of our home, office and personal space. Therefore, even if in the bigger scope of things, our earthly luck is not so good, we are still able to create some positive ‘chi’ thru the correction of our interior feng shui to improve our overall luck. Thus, thru the practice of feng shui, can one make that crucial difference in life, between one that is truly successful and one that average.

Mankind luck is created by our behavior, our attitude towards life, as well as the choices that we make along this journey of life. There should not be any doubt that personal effort can greatly affect one’s quality of life. Many people from poorer backgrounds or in a disadvantageous position have turned around their quality of life thru their efforts and attitude towards life. There are many stories of people who have become very successful even though they started off life in a somewhat unfavorable position. Yet there are also many stories of frustrated geniuses that did not make it, despite being given every advantage in life.

The final conclusion is that, even if your four pillars of destiny indicates a somewhat insufficient amount of luck, do not despair, as you can still improve your overall luck by adopting the practice of feng shui and ensuring that your personal actions and attitudes create additional luck.

Master Richard Tan has spent many years researching Path Chee, and has successfully developed a software program that completely automate the process of reading and analyzing a person's Four Pillar of Destiny. The program computes an individual's Paht Chee chart and luck cycles and also offers a comprehensive report.

FENG SHUI A Year When Lap Chun Goes Missing !

Lap Chun is the first day of spring in the Chinese Lunar Calendar. The Chinese believe if a New Year is to start without spring, this will denote a weak year ahead. Without spring to herald in the year, there will not be any significant growth, instead it looks like tough times are ahead.

So what does Lillian Too, the world’s most established feng shui writer, have to say? "Better to start everything BEFORE the New Year!"

Come take a closer look at the four pillars chart for 2005. In the Wood Rooster Year, we find that the fire and water elements are missing from the chart! No water means no wealth! Without fire, there’s no fame or glory either!

With the lack of water and fire elements, the energy needed to fuel growth in the coming year is practically non-existent! Thus, it won’t be a good year for businesses and commerce. Success and recognition will be hard to attain.

Even so, don’t let the poor year luck spoil your plans. Instead, use this time to focus on building foundations. For those starting up new enterprises, make sure your company has a solid base! If you are thinking of going for a new career, refine and strengthen your skills! Things may get frustrating at times as progress is slow. But remember, success is not achieved overnight. It may not be the time for immense growth or exciting gains, but always make the most of what you have.

And since you know what the year is lacking, enhance these energies yourself! Have water fountains and lots of lights placed at home and the office too.

From the chart, you will note that apart of the plenteous earth element, there are also metal and wood elements. Metal will exhaust the earth, while wood destroys it. This means that the earth energy is not very strong, resulting in possible mishaps associated with the land such as landslides or earthquakes. Earth is fuel on by the fire element. So it would be very wise to have your fire energy burning strong. Leave your lights on the whole night!

Also, the clash between metal and wood element in the year pillar suggests widespread violence and hostility throughout the year. As metal is further enhanced by the presence of earth element, this could result in accidents and natural disasters.

But hold on, there is good news in store too! With so much earth element (there are four) in the chart, this could bring about an increase in property and land values, making it very lucrative period for property owners.

On the whole, we should proceed with care in 2005 as the signs of instability are there. It’s better to lay low and leave risk taking for another year. Remember, apart from activating water and fire energy, another missing essential this New Year is Spring. So bring blooms into your home. Lots of it! Pussy willows, narcissus and lime trees are considered to be very auspicious indeed! Make your own Spring with all these fresh energy to welcome the Rooster Year!

FENG SHUI Chinese Luck Prediction

The Chinese believe that everyone's life is governed by five factors, and these are:

1. Our FATE as revealed in our paht chee charts, our palms and our faces.
2. Our LUCK which makes an appearance at different phases of our life
3. Our FENG SHUI the influence of our living abodes and work places
4. Our CHARACTER how we behave and respond to opportunities
5. Our WISDOM i.e. our education, attitude and understanding of life.

These manifest our heaven, earth and mankind luck, known as tien, ti ren. Heaven luck is what we bring into this world at birth. Being born human is already regarded as extreme good fortune, but the pattern of our life is coloured by a range of luck situations that appear at different times of our life span. Heaven luck reveals our destiny at birth, and this comprises what we are born with i.e. our intellect, physical attributes and personality. Look on this as the raw material we are blessed with, for it includes abilities, attitudes, special skills and aptitudes.

LILLIAN TOO offers an introduction to CHINESE LUCK PREDICTION using the paht chee charts, and makes clear some common confusions and fallacies

Three Methods Of Luck Prediction

The Chinese have long possessed the skills to read destiny and to make luck predictions using birth data, lines on the hand and features of the face. The quality and quantity of our attributes are revealed in these methods of luck prediction. Of the three methods, it is the birth data that reveals the most amount of information in respect to making predictions of the turning points in our lives, the major events, the upheavals and the lucky breaks. So learning paht chee is almost as useful as learning feng shui, and indeed, correct paht chee inputs complements feng shui incredibly well.

Paht Chee Chart

Paht chee charts are created based on the four pillars of a personĆ¢€™s birth data Ć¢€“ and these are the year, month, day and hour of birth. These four pieces of information generates two elements each, comprising the heavenly stem and the earthly branch of each pillar. Thus, there are eight characters generated from the four pillars of birth data.

To date, almost all professional courses and workshops on paht chee analysis comprise two sections. The first section which usually makes up about 60 to 70 percent of any course is spent learning how to cast the paht chee chart and corresponding luck pillars using the Chinese thousand year HSIA calendar. This part of the exercise is a laborious process, requiring a great deal of calculations and references to the calendar. The margin of error at this stage is very high when the process is hand-calculated. It is for this reason that I was always wary of the Hong Kong paht chee experts who calculated my chart using only their reference tables. I knew instinctively that if the chart was not properly drawn up that the readings given to me were sure to be wrong.

In any case, I was always more interested in the part of the learning that was devoted to the interpretation of the chart and the luck pillars. In todayĆ¢€™s computer age, the first part of the paht chee exercise has now been reduced to a software program, which is easily written. So there are now several internet websites, including that of www.wofs.com, from where anyone can download their personalized paht chee chart and luck pillars for free. Which thus leaves mainly the interpretation part of the learning process.

The Chinese Tung Shu is a fabulous source of incredibly interesting indications of destiny,
but what is contained in here are different from the four pillars of destiny used in Chinese luck prediction
What The Chart Reveals

The paht chee chart reveals a mountain of information when accurately drawn up. But it must be correctly read and correctly interpreted if it is to be of any use.

From the paht chee, you can find answers to many questions. These questions can range from whether you will be rich, and if so, when it will materialize. You can also check when you can get married, get a child, find a job and so forthĆ¢€¦ so information relating to wealth and success potential, to the good and bad periods of a life span, and to career and professional prospects can all be investigated.

The paht chee chart is also an excellent tool for investigating compatibility between people and for determining the best strategic timing of important decisions. It reveals major turning points of oneĆ¢€™s life. Thus, just as in feng shui, it is a living skill that enables anyone to participate actively in transforming his or her destiny.

How is this done?

Knowing how to access and analyze your paht chee enables you to become involved in adjusting the balance of elements that rule your destiny. You can determine your good and bad periods and by simply adjusting your surroundings, you can transform those potentially harmful periods into neutral times, and good periods into times of achievement of a stellar magnitude.

This is the most compelling of reasons for learning the paht chee reading skill.

With practice, almost anyone can become adept at reading paht chee charts. It is a skill that can be learnt. How much of your own instincts you add to the process differs from person to person. But deep within every human individual are powerful psychic abilities that lie embedded and asleep until they get awakened with use.

Once surfaced, our higher instincts will become increasingly stronger. This is what I have discovered, that the more I practise feng shui and the more I refer to paht chee analysis, the sharper my instincts seem to become over the years. This is because I become more aware of my surroundings. In the process, I find myself developing more sensitivity to the energy around me.

I also found that destiny is only one part of the equation of life; there is also the input of oneĆ¢€™s actions and the influence of oneĆ¢€™s attitudes. When we are powerful and passionate enough about wanting to transform our lives, we can usually transform our destinies. Fate is only one fifth of how our future pans out. Success, health, wealth or happiness are abstractions. How much or how little we have of each depends on ourselves. In the same way, how much is enough for us is also up to us. In the end it is what we make of what is given to us that decides the direction and quality of our life.

The ability to make luck predictions and to practise feng shui is for us to improve ourselves and make good decisions. These are living skills that aid us. Just like learning to drive, to read, to write, to count, to help people they make life more pleasant.

FENG SHUI Introduction to I - Ching

The seasoned wisdom of thousands of years has gone into the makings of the I-Ching. Both branches of Chinese philosophy - Confucianism and Taoism have their common roots in this ancient calssic, known also as The Book of Changes. The I-Ching alone, among all the Confucian Classics, escaped the great burning of the books under emperor Chin Shih Huang Ti in 213 BC.

by Lillian Too

The origins of the I Ching go back to mythical antiquity, as a book of divination and as a book of wisdom. All that is great and significant in Chinese cultural history takes inspiration fromt he I-Ching - aspects of the many related principles and symbols of the Chinese predictive sciences, its view of the Trinity, Heaven, Earth and Man, the concepts of Yin and Yang, balance and harmony, positive and negative forces, good fortune and misfortune, are all derived from interpretations of the texts and judgements of the I Ching's 64 hexagrams.

The I Ching's Hexagrams are each made up of six lines, one placed above the other. These lines may be either broken (--) or unbroken (-). Broken lines are known as yin and unbroken ones yang. These lines may also be changing or unchanging (ie a broken yin line can change to an unbroken yang line and vice versa). Thus the key to understanding the texts of the I Ching lies in the understanding of the placement of thse broken and unbroken lines in relation to each other.

The Hexagrams originated from three lined Trigrams (ie by doubling the Trigrams). There are 8 possible combinations of broken and unbroken lines when arranged in sets of three lines. There are thus 64 hexagrams (8 X 8 = 64) . When placed in sets of six lines, there are altogether 64 possible combinations of broken and unbroken lines. Each of the eight Trigrams symbolize different meanings; and their positionings contain suggestions of good or bad luck. This aspect of the I Ching's texts is what has made it China's premier classic on Divinations.

The I Ching's hexagrams contain symbols and ideas from nature, society and the individual. For those who consult the I Ching before deciding on some action, the hexagrams offer wisdom, warnings, and also specific predictions of outcomes thereby giving guidance on whether to proceed, wait or not to proceed at all. The hexagrams also advise on timing and behaviours and attitudes directly related to the specific question asked. Where applicable, it counsels further preparation, or advocates patience and even reveals misfortunes hidden in apparent good fortune and vice versa. Favourable or unfavourable conditions are described, and difficulties, whether at the beginning or at the end are revealed.

The six lines of the hexagrams contain 3 elements - a symbol, an event and a judgement. The hexagram itself represents overall indication of good fortune or misfortune. Interpretations of these elements are directly related to the question being asked. Thus, in consulting the I Ching, questions must be specific.

Each hexagram contains four trigrams. These Trigrams each have an attribute, a symbol and a characteristic and are also related to the five elements - water, wood, fire, metal or earth. The anatomy of every hexagram is made of two primary trigrams and two nuclear trigrams.

The two primary trigrams consist of the top three lines and bottom three lines. The two nuclear trigrams are made up of lines two, three and four (from the bottom) and lines three, four and five (from the bottom). The primary trigrams reveal the circumstances of the situation being consulted, while the nuclear trigrams reveal the prediction. The latter provide precise details for judging the nuances of predicted good or bad fortune. When consulting the I Ching, therefore, readers must familiarize themselves with the meanings of each of the eight Trigrams as well as what they each symbolize. The I Ching's texts on the 64 hexagrams may then be more fully understood, and predictions become clearer and easier to understand

FENG SHUI Selecting the coins to construct the Hexagram

In the previous month, we discussed what I-Ching is and how it came about. In the next few instalments, we are about to explore tossing the I-Ching coins, using I-Ching at home and how one can predict the immediate future using the I-Ching divination methods. In the previous month, we discussed what I-Ching is and how it came about. In the next few instalments, we are about to explore tossing the I-Ching coins, using I-Ching at home and how one can predict the immediate future using the I-Ching divination methods. I-Ching divination has been practised before the emperor Chin Shih Huang Ti's time, when it escaped the burning of most classical literatures.

The Chinese used many different ways to predict I-Ching. However, the coin method of divination has been determined as the most efficient and popular. While several variations are used, the simplest and most effective approach is to use three coins to do the prediction. The coins for I-Ching prediction are important because foreseeing the future is a serious undertaking.

Most serious practitioners prefer ancient Chinese coins. (You may want to get the I-Ching Kit available at the Feng Shui Megamall at www.wofs.com).

These coins are round with a square in the middle. On one side, there are four Chinese characters (Yang), while on the other side are two Chinese characters (Yin). Generally, there are six characters on the coin and it represents the six lines of the Hexagram. The round shape of the coin represents heaven (Chien), while the square in the middle is Earth (K'un).

The three coins used symbolize the relationship between heaven, earth and man, or the three lines of the Trigrams. However, if old coins are not easily obtained, it is okay to use regular coins. Remember that heads is the yang side, and tails is the yin. These coins should be set aside and carefully wrapped in velvet when not in use.

FENG SHUI Using I-Ching Wealth Coins

Symbolism is highly important in the practice of feng shui. In China, the use of symbolism is widespread. Homes and buildings are decorated with auspicious motifs, giant statues of the protective celestial creatures flank doorways to all the major buildings, even the paths paved in gardens are carved with lucky symbols.

Central to the use of symbols in feng shui is the belief that displaying auspicious objects around one's living and work space attract good luck energies, while displaying protective figurines deflect harmful energies. Thus, it makes sense to display such symbols in abundance.
This week we'll talk about I-Ching coins and how you can use them to bring you money luck.

I-Ching coins are Chinese coins that are round with a square hole in the center. The round and square shapes represent heaven and earth respectively. One side of the coin is the Yang side (depicted by four characters), the other the Yin side (2 characters). You should always display these coins with the yang side facing up.

These coins bring prosperity and income luck, and are said to have tremendous potency, especially when energized with red or gold thread.

Tying the Coins

To activate these coins, first you should tie them into bunches of 3, 6 or 9 with red or gold thread. These are the best multiples to have. 3 represents the trinity of heaven, earth and mankind luck; 6 represents luck from heaven; and 9 is the magic number representing the wholeness of the universe.

You can also buy these coins ready tied in a variety of knot-types.

Using the Coins

Once you have these coins in bunches, you can use them in the following ways:

1) Stick (or hang) these coins onto your cash register or invoice book to increase your sales income and turnover in your business.

2) Tape the coins onto the SE corner of your desk to activate for instant money luck.

3) Carry in your pocket, purse or wallet.

4) Stick onto your phone to turn every phone call you receive into income for you. (This is very suitable for companies where a lot of business is done on the telephone).

5) Place coins under the paving stones leading up to your house. If you are renovating or building a new house, you should buy a whole load of these coins to paste on the walls before you put your new layer of plaster, and on the floors before putting on the tiles. This will ensure your household will prosper and become wealthy and abundant, rather than just having enough.

6) A Taoist feng shui method said to be extremely potent in activating for wealth is to place coins tied with the mystic knot in the four corners of every room in your home and office. The mystic knot gives the coins added potency and sets up wealth vibrations through the foundations of your home / office.

There are many many ways in which you can make use of these Chinese coins. They can be found as motifs in windchimes, vases, garden murals… the above are just a few suggestions on how you can use your coins, but feel free to be creative in your use of these wonderful energizers.

FENG SHUI The Do's and Don'ts of Using the Hexagram

The hexagram is a unique method of divination where we toss coins to obtain answers from the I-Ching. However before embarking on this quest, there are some basic do's and don'ts that you need to keep in mind. The hexagram is a unique method of divination where we toss coins to obtain answers from the I-Ching. However before embarking on this quest, there are some basic do's and don'ts that you need to keep in mind.

1) Firstly, you should approach the I-Ching with respect as it has the wisdom of the ages. Before you ask the question, relax and allow your mind to become quiet and then focus on your question. When you ask the questions, you need to do it with a clear and open mind. Otherwise, you will not get a clear answer. Therefore it is important not to refer to I-Ching when you are distracted, as the I-Ching has a tendency to respond to what is prominent in your mind at that time. When receiving the answer however, you should not be upset if you do not get the answer you wanted to hear. You should keep in mind that the I-Ching is there to guide you to do the right thing.

2) If you use the I-Ching often enough, try keeping a record of all the questions you have asked as well as the answers that you have received from the I-Ching. This will help to develop a relationship with the I-Ching.

3) Generally, at parties, people tend to play with 'interesting games' to amuse themselves such as 'Spirit of the Coin' or the 'Ouija Board'. However, do not treat the I-Ching as a party game. Its purpose is to give you guidance when you have choices to make. If you are to use it to ask silly questions, it will only give you silly answers.

4) Finally, do not keep repeating the same questions over again. If you do, you may receive the hexagram number 4 (inexperience) which is a way for the I-Ching to reprimand you. However if the question that you ask refers to a volatile matter, which changes from time to time, this would be an exception.

Bearing this in mind you may venture into an unending adventure with the I-Ching.

FENG SHUI Nine Star Ki Astrology

Legend tells us that around the year 2205 BC, a man named Yu of Hsia, watched a noble Tortoise emerge from the legendary Yellow River, carrying on its huge back, nine numbers that were arranged in a grid pattern. This pattern became to be known as the Lo-shu and is the predecessor of the Later Heaven pakua.

Nine hundred years earlier, the shaman king Fu Hsi, described the Earlier Heaven pakua, which appeared to him on the back of a horse that emerged from the same Yellow River. This pattern was called the Ho-tu and to understand its meaning, is to understand the structure of the Universe.

But, it is the Lo-shu that we see incorporated in the bagua, or pakua, the kua system, the Eight Aspirations and the Flying Star method. Where the Ho-tu pakua describes the order of things, the Lo-shu predicts the changes of Heaven and Earth, the cycles of the seasons, and the wind and the water.

What I'm going to talk about is the 9 Star Ki Astrology, which is a Japanese system of divination based on the Chinese Lo-shu (In China, its referred to as White & Purple Star Astrology). It is an astrological system that uses your birthdate to determine your personality, emotional character and outward behavior. This system does not determine your individual element or auspicious direction. If you want to know your element, then I will direct you towards Four Pillar of Destiny Astrology-a whole different ball game. Or, if you're looking to find the 'right' direction to point your head while sleeping, I believe you'll find that in the kua system. However, 9 Star Ki does have something called the Ki-energy of Direction of Movement, and that tells us, if you travel in a direction that is deemed unfavorable for your Principle number for that particular time period, it could prove unlucky. But, let's worry about that at some other time.

Take a look at the 9 Star Ki square that's illustrated above. It's important to memorize the movement from one box to the next. It looks like a puzzle, doesn't it? I'm going to assume you have some knowledge of the baqua and the Five Elements. If you do, this will help. Here's a way to help you memorize the puzzle. We start at 3. Why? Because, that's Chen on the baqua and that represents 'young wood', early spring. In other words: New Beginnings. Then, move to Hsun (4), 'mature wood'. From there, it's the Tai chi (5), to Chyan (6), to Dui (7), to Ken (8), to Li (9), to Kan (1) and then to Kun (2), the trigram that represents Mother on the baqua, which is nourishment. This is the movement of chi by the second, by the minute, by the hour, by the day and by the year. It always starts at Chen and ends at Kun, the place we stop to nourish ourselves before starting again.

Below, are the ten charts of the Movement of Chi, notice how the number five moves throughout the chart.

To find the chart of your birth, count backward from the year 2000, where 9 is in the center. For example, lets take someone's birth date that is April 7th, 1964. If we keep counting back to 1964 we will see 9 in the center again. A birthday of February 13th 1952 we will find 3 in the center. That central number is your Principle Number.

Here's an easier way to find your Principle Number. I'll use birth dateFebruary 13th 1952:

February 13th 1952= 1+9+5+2=17= 1+7= 8
Subtract the sum from 11. 11-8= 3

The remainder is the Principle Number, which is 3.

Gender is unimportant. It's done the same way for both sexes. I know in the Kua System the mathematics are done differently for males and females. The idea is that the male (yang) moves forward and the female (yin) moves backward. In the Japanese system of 9 Star Ki, the concept is that human beings contain both yin and yang and that, us, as human beings, are moving forward all the time.

Does this mean everyone born between the lunar year of 1952 is a 3? Yes. And, the next time you go to your High School re-union just check out the "similarities" in your former schoolmates' lives. However, there are two other things to consider that will add to our uniqueness.

The Principle Number (Heaven) represents our Spirit, our karma. It's our personality.
The second, is the Character Number (Earth), which represents us physically. Or, that we genetically inherit from our Mother.
The third, is the Energetic Number (Man), which represents our behavior.

To find your Energetic Number is a bit tricky. So, pay attention. Go back to the original Lo-shu Magic Square. Now, place your Character Number in the center. What is it? A five? A three? Place that Lo-shu with your central number over the Lo-shu Magic Square. Where your Principle Number falls, the number underneath is your Energetic Number.

Place on top

When you place it over the Lo-shu Magic Square you will see that the Principle Number falls on top of the 7. That 7 is your Energetic Number. A person with this birthdate, is 3-1-7.

Now, what do all these numbers mean? Well, lets take a look at ourselves- the good and the bad.

One: Kan, water. There are two types of water chi: Still and moving. Still waters run deep. This type is shy, secretive. Moods run from one extreme to the next. Knows a little about a lot. Ones are complainers and they don't like to follow chain of command. They have trouble finishing things. Moving waters like to stir things up. They are strong & very independent. They love travel. Be careful not to isolate yourself too much, for One is the loneliest number.

Two: Kun, earth. Represents Mother on trigram. Nourishing, tactful, sincere & loyal. Always finding shortcuts to complete their work. They are motherly & conservative. Women tend to treat their boyfriends like babies. A 2 person is reserved & gentle. They tend to build their lives slowly, but surely.

Three: Chen, wood; spring. They have tremendous energy and a youthful demeanor. May have younger mates. They love to try new things first, but they get bored easily and move on quickly. Trendsetters. Quick tempers. Usually good with money, but can be a spendthrift. Their bluntness can get them in trouble. Stay away from drugs and alcohol, can become addictive & behave badly. Good occupations are entertainers; fashion models; healers & teachers (especially with children).

Four: Hsun, mature wood. Practical; stubborn; vulnerable in love. Their personality is like the Wind, hard to grasp and forever changing directions. Indecisiveness makes them miss many opportunities. They are resistant to change. Sensitive; good listeners. Charismatic auras. They make good musicians, artists and counselors.

Five: Tai Chi; earth. Power & leadership. They are the Center, the Soul of an organization. The men can be womanizers. And, the women can spoil their man. They're usually surrounded by many dependent people. But, they love to take people under their wings. Very practical skills. Usually receives help from strangers. They make good politicians; judges; army officers.

Six: Chyan; metal. Very efficient and on time. People are usually afraid of them, so they have difficulties in relationships. Sharp-tongued and strong-willed. Hard worker, but be careful not to rush. In the beginning, they are your benefactor, then later, you become their 'slave'. Good careers for a Six would be a lawyer, psychologist or in real estate.

Seven: Dui; unrefined metal. Charming, sociable and they really enjoy life. A smooth talker. However, they'll do what ever it takes to get what they want even if it includes losing their dignity. Like a child, they don't like to share. They are bad housekeepers. And, they love luxury.

Eight: Ken; earth. Intelligent; well-groomed; loves courtship & to be woo. Eights are born with perfect, shapely figures. Very demanding of others. Very dramatic luck. A joke teller. And, a very nice person. They make good comedians, scientists, lawyers and editors.

Nine: Li; fire. A Super auspicious number. Nines are well-known and kindly. Very aware of their appearance and always competing for the spotlight. Nines are very proud. They have an air of superiority around them. Impulsive behavior can make them inconsiderate to others. Nines are show business people; other careers would include fashion designer; fashion models; and politicians.

Once you have found your own Principle, Character and Energetic numbers, you can do your lovers, friends and family. If you understand the relationship between the Five Elements, you can see how your number gets along with others. If you're unfamiliar with the Five Elements, then take a peek on my page "History of Feng Shui" and review the destructive and creative cycles.

A 3 person is wood and will energize a 9, who is fire (wood feeds fire). A 6, who is metal, will be in conflict with a 3 or a 4, since metal chops down wood. A 3 with a 3 is a very energetic couple that will be making love all the time. In relationships, it's a good idea to have at least one number that is the same.

Lets put all three Personality numbers together and see what we get. Lets do 9 Star Ki on two celebrities and see how close I get to their public persona.

Russell Crowe: April 7th 1964 9-3-2 He is proud, but conservative. For him, anything less than perfection is unsatisfactory. He appears quiet and gentle, but underneath he is controlled by intense sensitivity and passion. Once his mind is set on something, this type will go after it with such intensity that others will be amazed. May appear indecisive, but he's just being overly cautious. When faced with a serious problem, may become stormy and forceful. Unfortunately, this kind of sudden reaction could interfere with relationships. May have had a strong mother who was very influential in molding his views on male-female roles. Anyone with these number combinations wants perfection & total satisfaction in their love life. Because of his pride, this type will have trouble forming harmonious relationships with others. They also aim for success, fame & power. But, remember to stay realistic; watch out for that stormy nature; respect those around you & keep that pride in order.

Madonna: August 16th 1958 6-8-3 We all know her as bigger than life, but did you know that she is quite magnanimous? This number combination makes them very stylish, which gives them strong social appeal. She's discriminative in her choice of friends & associates. If she likes you, she'll be very considerate, if she doesn't--she'll avoid you completely. This type expends a lot of energy to achieve their goals. But, their rashness can cause them to loose balance & judgment. Because she wants so many things she can find it hard to zero in on just one activity at a time. She may overpower others, often to the point of alienating them, especially other women. This type must learn not to rush into things where impatience could ruin all. They also have good luck in money matters & fame. Remember, stay considerate of others & let that magnanimous nature work for you.

We can take 9 Star Ki one step further and use it as a divination tool. By watching the movement of your Principle Number throughout the lo-shu we can determine our yearly trends. For example, this year, 9, is in the tai chi (center) position. So, if your Principle Number is 9, not only will everything you buy this year will be or have a 9 in it, but, you can expect to be in the center of things, good & bad. Next year, 2001, the 9 will move into the chyan position, which will bring many benefactors. For all you 9's out there, trends should stay positive for you until the year 2005. Expect that year to be 'not so hot'. The year 2006, you'll pause to replenish yourself and 2007, will start you off on a new beginning.

FENG SHUI Nine Star Ki

We call the study of our energy relationship with the material environment "Feng Shui". And we apply the principles of Feng Shui to achieve harmony in the compositional elements of our structures, their inhabitants and the surrounding geography. Correspondingly, we call the study of our energy relationship with the temporal environment, "Nine Star Ki" (Kyu Sei Ki - In Japanese). And we can apply the principles of this school to create harmony within the framework of the conditions and events that influence our lives.

Here's a comprehensive article by Wayne Weber from Blooming Grove for you to chew on....

Nine Star Ki
An Article by Wayne Weber - from Blooming Grove.
Just as every structure and household emanates its own, unique field of energy patterns, so does every period in time. And, as surely as we are subject to the energy dynamics of the shapes that we occupy and work in, we are also in constant interaction with the characteristics of the times.

While we possess the free will to choose our occupations, our level of well being and our ultimate destiny, we are also the product of our environment. On the more material level, this means that we are profoundly influenced by the quality and character of our home, our workspace, our neighborhood and our culture. Likewise, we are intimately involved with the lifelong rhythms of our heartbeat, sleeping patterns and the dance of the seasons.

We call the study of our energy relationship with the material environment, "Feng Shui". And we apply the principles of Feng Shui, to achieve harmony in the compositional elements of our structures, their inhabitants and the surrounding geography.

Correspondingly, we call the study of our energy relationship with the temporal environment, "Nine Star Ki" (Kyu Sei Ki - In Japanese). And we can apply the principles of this school to create harmony within the framework of the conditions and events that influence our lives.

Modern science defines the primary components of our universe to be "space" and "time". In this case, we can see that the two ancient schools, Feng Shui (elements of space) and Nine Star Ki (elements of time) formulate a very comprehensive and elegant approach. And these schools are, in effect, two sides of the same coin.

In fact, Nine Star Ki and Feng Shui arise from a common source and are founded upon the same universal principles; from the elementary concept of Yin & Yang, to the more elaborate Five Aspects of Energy. And fortunately so. Because of this universal commonality, we can apply these methodologies as a unified tool, in consultation and diagnosis.

If anything, the fundamentals of Nine Star Ki are easier to learn than Feng Shui. Thankfully, we live in an ordered universe. Therefore, the changing cycles in time arise in regular, predictable patterns. Why the "9" in Nine Star Ki? Because there are nine basic cycles, each cycle having its own particular nature and set of characteristics. And these cycles repeat, in the same order.

For the sake of this discussion, we can focus upon the 9 monthly and 9 yearly cycles, but we should remember that these time periods are small wheels, within larger circuits of time (e.g., 81 Year Cycles [9 x 9]). Also, these time units house smaller patterns (e.g., daily and hourly cycles). But the monthly and annual cycles are of special interest, because they have an obvious and very direct influence upon our daily lives.

Every year, on or near February 4th, the annual ki changes and a new set of energy patterns becomes predominant. Therefore, each year has its own personality, its own atmosphere. 1999 was a "Number 1 White Water" year and 2000 is described as "Number 9 Purple Fire". The following chart lists some relevant years and their associated ki:

9 Star Years (beginning Feb. 4)

You can find your annual 9 Star Ki number in the above table. Remember, if you were born prior to February 4th, use the Ki number that is assigned to the previous year. For example, a person born on January 8th, 1953, is a 3 Tree.

According to Nine Star Ki, we embody the ki characteristics of the year in which we were born. For example, a person born after February 4th, 1950, is said to be a "Five Soil" person. Someone born in 1978 is a Four Tree individual, and so on. Therefore, there are nine principal personality types. In reality, these basic personalities are made richer and more complex via additional aspects, like the monthly ki, diet, the season of birth, location of childhood and, of course, other environmental conditions and personal decisions. Despite this, the fundamental patterns of the nine personalities are, still, quite discernible.

The Number 1 White Water Person

It is good to tap into this person’s insight. Being the most yang number, they can be very comfortable when engaged in worldly pursuits, but are strongly attracted to the yin, spiritual aspects of life. This combination gives the 1 Water person a very strong intuition. These individuals can have a very subdued appearance but, inside, they are very strong. The evolved One Water seeks out people, religions, books; any means that will provide structure in their life. This inherent drive for structure does not come about because the 1 Water is a weak person. On the contrary, like water, this personality is very flexible and can flow in virtually any direction. Therefore the search is for definition, not to be pampered or held back. One Waters are very interested in observing others and in sexual relationships. They can keep their thoughts and feelings well hidden, but have a deep respect for the art of communication and are excellent listeners.

The Number 2 Black Soil Person

It is good to have a 2 Soil around when there is work to be done. These people are consistent, steadfast and can be very supportive. But they should not be mistaken for blind followers. They have strong ideals and are public minded. Historically, there are many well remembered 2 Soil leaders, such as Lincoln, Kennedy and Tenzin Gyatso (The Dalai Lama). Because the evolved 2 Soil plays such a supporting role, they sometimes find it difficult to say "no" to the requests and invitations of others, even when they would rather be alone or resting. In fact, it is advisable that they create some quiet time for rejuvenation. They find it difficult to hide from the activities of the world for too long, though, due to their thirst for social interaction. 2 Soils are not the "get rich quick" type, but they can find great prosperity through long, steady effort. Because of their social, hard working nature, they make excellent teachers.

The Number 3 Green Tree Person

A good person to see for fresh insights and new opinions. As their rising energy suggests, 3 Trees are very active. They like to explore and to choose their own path. The 3 Tree personality is honest to a fault and is, not always, as tactful as one may wish. But their adventurous spirit and their joyful attitude towards life can attract many people. Due to their active nature (tight spiral), many 3 Tree individuals have firm, yang bodies. People born in the 3 Tree position like to win, but evolved 3 Trees also have the capacity to truly feel joy when others succeed. This being the case, fully adjusted 3 Trees are extremely pleased when "everyone wins" and, for this reason, can be very effective leaders. Three Trees often act spontaneously and, sometimes, with insufficient consideration of the details. Therefore, they learn through experience. They make good performers.

The Number 4 Dark Green Tree Person

Four Trees make good experts. They can provide very powerful advice, concerning issues that dwell within their field of expertise. However, their response to questions that are outside of their normal studies may be less practical. The archetype of the absent- minded professor comes to mind. Four Tree people have a great love for life and they like to focus upon those aspects that can provide the deepest personal meaning. Therefore, they tend to be romantics, idealists or musicians and are not especially appreciative of oppressive situations. If conditions necessitate that a 4 Tree become an expert in a field that is of little personal interest, they will be miserable. Because of their capacity for analytical thought and devotion to a specific field of study, genius can be expressed in many different ways. Albert Einstein and Jimi Hendrix were, both, 4 Trees.

The Number 5 Yellow Soil Person

A good manager and controller of ventures, projects and households. The 5 Soil can be found in all walks of life, from the very humble to the highest circles of wealth and power. Wherever they are, events and people tend to center around them. It is not as if they are in the limelight and they are not necessarily the center of attention. But they possess a power and control to such an extent that it would be difficult for the other 8 types to fathom. They are inscrutable. If you are not a Five Soil person, the best time to get an idea of their characteristics is when you occupy the 5 Soil annual position. When you are in the position of another number, you take on some of the attributes that are associated with that personality. Since 5 Soils are in the "center", both positive and negative situations move towards them. It is their nature to make use of the good aspects and to turn the other energies away, or to manage them into a more beneficial state. Five Soils collect things. Some collect people and build large organizations. Some collect stamps. The evolved 5 Soil knows they are a 5 Soil. Not necessarily because they have studied Nine Star Ki. They come to know that their thoughts and actions can have a profound influence upon the well-being of others and they use their energy towards that end. Being the balancing influence, they don’t appreciate sudden change, so time is required for new ideas and directions to take root.

The Number 6 White Metal Person

This person is good for providing solidarity and purpose to a group or an event. Six Metals have a strong sense of ethical propriety. Choosing a practical approach over idealism, they can be strict and strong willed when applying their authority. Many mechanics, machinists, mechanical engineers and jewelers are 6 Metals. The evolved Six Metal is socially oriented, working for the good of the team or family. They share their opinions on life by setting a strong example through their behavior, rather then verbalizing their ideas. They are good financial managers and they excel at producing finished products. Most 6 Metals are "main stream" thinkers, with little interest or belief in methods that are not "tried and true". But, they can have very strong powers of intuition, in and of themselves. In some cases, this intuitive nature can become so profound that some would call it psychic.

The Number 7 Red Metal Person

It is good to turn to this person for extravagance and fun. This is the energy of early evening, of the setting sun, and the 7 Metal personality reflects the sensual nature of the times. Therefore, this person will be interested in the morays and fashions of the day and their interest will, often, be exemplified in their clothes, jewelry and hairstyle. These individuals may appear to be emotional and superficial, on the surface, but inside they are solid. The evolved Seven Metal is very organized and will have a practical response to almost any situation. This mode of operation provides balance to an, otherwise, exorbitant and overly emotional state of being. They are masters of oratory and can sway opinions with their voice. Due to their natural sensuality and general attractiveness, Sevens are easily noticed and are often promoted quickly through the ranks of an organization. While they can be extremely practical and patient, they flourish best when receiving the attention and support of others.

The Number 8 White Soil Person

This person is good for anything that fits in with their plans. Usually, their plans include lending a helpful hand to any and everyone. Eight Soils are kind hearted, fair minded and family oriented. However, when they feel an injustice has been performed, they are quick to speak out and take remedial action. These individuals alternate between periods of reserved, deep activity and extroverted interaction. They are deep thinkers and boisterous revelers. The evolved Eight Soil will study important issues before taking action. They often have a very straightforward set of plans, concerning their career moves and what they want to accomplish next. But, they are not afraid to become involved with new ideas and directions. They are intrepid travelers and make excellent road companions. They move around in life. Eight Soils love family. Even if their experiences keep them from settling down at an early age, the thought of family is always there. As they age, their deep love and respect for elders grows.

The Number 9 Purple Fire Person

This person is good for developing new ideas and initiating fresh activities. But, in order to reach a successful conclusion, their path must be well defined. Like Fire, they attract a lot of attention and can be very charismatic. Their temperament can change quickly, so it is sometimes difficult to know what the mood will be, next. Outgoing and enthusiastic, these individuals are brilliant on the surface but, often, concise plans and opinions have not been carefully thought out. The evolved Nine Fire will use their good fortune, charisma and outgoing nature to develop a business or profession that will balance their somewhat chaotic existence with the more substantial, material aspects of life. They have learned to channel their flamboyant nature, to obtain the required social approval and support. Many 9 Fires are very successful in public relations and sales positions. Often, Nine Fires have difficulty settling down in a long term job or marriage.

One of the most helpful aspects of Nine Star Ki is the ability to compare an individual’s primary energies to the energy conditions of the present cycle in time (or to any other given cycle in time); thereby, defining what that person can expect, in the way of harmonious or antagonistic events, potential opportunities and tendencies towards a more active or passive response to the properties of the times.

Also, Nine Ki can be very valuable to the Feng Shui consultant. For example, the shape or structural components of a particular dwelling may be harmonious and supportive for an individual of one ki personality. But, the very same home could be detrimental to someone with a different ki profile. Such knowledge can be of vital importance and the results of applications, like this, can be quite remarkable. I hope this introduction will inspire some readers to become more familiar with Nine Star Ki. The basic concepts are easy to learn and, with a little experience, are just as easy to apply. Seemingly miraculous, Nine Star Ki is, actually, very practical, straightforward and is a very useful tool for humankind.

BTB Feng Shui - the Best Spiritual Feng Shui Style Today

Grand Master Lin Yun, His Holiness Rinpoche is the leader of this powerful, transformational and extraordinary use of Feng Shui energy. BTB is an affectionate and easy speaking nickname for Black Sect Tantric Buddhism. What does that mean? The article will explain the definition as well as give the reader practical easy to use applications to be used in any home in any direction. This style of Feng Shui is deeply rooted in spiritual principles; principles that are flexible like the bamboo. So put away your calculators and charts for a moment and feel free to open your mind, heart and spirit to a new understanding of Feng Shui.

Feng Shui schools have changed and grown since the beginning of Feng Shui. This is a natural progression as more information becomes available. Mostly all the Feng Shui schools were derived out of a need for people to feel most comfortable and healthy in their environments. Each of these schools came at different times and in different places based on the conditions and needs of the times. Each has served and still serves a need and a purpose.

Principles that transcend time still exist today. The beauty of Feng Shui is that as the earth and her people change, grow and develop so does Feng Shui. Grand Master Lin Yun teaches to be a constant student and to use all information available to study and analyze the Feng Shui of a home, workplace or any environment. He honors all schools of Feng Shui with great respect. The sciences that influence and mold BTB Feng Shui Principles are: geomancy, form school, Taoism, Yin-Yang philosophy, exoteric Buddhism, Eclecticism, Metaphysics, I-Ching, architecture, psychology, physiology, modern techniques of measuring electro-magnetic fields, holistic healing, divination, Chinese folklore, Confucianism, Five Element Theory, geology, geography and plain old common sense.

The basic difference between Compass School and Black Sect Feng Shui is the use of directions as an absolute. When I was in China in October three Feng Shui masters told me that my home was facing the wrong direction. All three suggested the only thing I could do to remedy that drastic problem was to move. In my opinion these theories were based on information thousands of years ago, when picking up and moving was easy and practical.

Today, in this hemisphere and with the scarcity of good Real Estate it is simply not realistic or practical. Another major difference is the reliance on astrological information. Compass bases the orientation of the direction of the Bagua on this information. There are different views within the school on how to do find that. Some suggest there is a head of household. Yet in this country marriages and partnerships are theoretically based on equality.

In the BTB school, astrological information is very important to the success and happiness in ones life. The key to a healthy, prosperous balanced life culminates several factors: karma, education and application - how you take of yourself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, spiritual practices, accumulation of good deeds, destiny - astrology, and Feng Shui. Each aspect can be used as a tool to enhance your life and well being. So if one practices spirituality in all aspects of your life the quality improves even if let's intelligence was not something you were born with a great deal of this aspect will be greatly improved. BTB Feng Shui is used in homes and businesses quite successfully throughout the world.

BTB Feng Shui school is used in the United States more than any other school. It has proven effective all over the world. At the heart of Feng Shui is Chi energy. Understanding how to discern the energy of an environment takes study and practice. It is most beneficial in this school of Feng Shui to practice meditations that open up the ability to use the intuition and the intellect to analyze a space. This makes most sense since energy (Chi) can be seen and unseen. It must be felt.

Many factors make up the complete energy analysis of any given business or home. Of any given item in your bedroom for instance these factors are looked at: the vibration, the touch, the color alone and in relation to other objects in the same space, the fragrance, the universal symbol, the personal meaning or symbol, the placement within the space, the condition and use of it. At first, this may seem a bit much but it is quickly and easily felt by a trained professional consultant. So, at the heart of BTB Feng Shui is Chi energy. Everything has Chi and everything is connected. Chi also moves about the space.

A home or business has interior factors and exterior factors that are reviewed for a final analysis. Just a few include the shape of the lot, shape of the house, floor plan, positions of bedrooms, kitchens, bathrooms, desks, stoves…etc, neighborhood, history of the house, lines of energy - electricity, cable, telephone, satellite dishes…etc., beams, lights, plants, water and influences of communities and countries.

The three main areas of any home are the bedroom, the front door and the kitchen. In BTB Feng Shui, the front door does not have to face in particular direction of the compass. It is best if the front door is visible or directly connected to the road, the modern day flow of energy. The front door is the connection with the world. A red front door is generally auspicious, however there are times when another color may be more beneficial. It is best if it opens into the home or business establishment. This directly and positively provides good energy and opportunities for the occupants.

The door is the mouth of Chi. The mouth is how we can get our personal energy and nutrition. Since the house is a living structure it's mouth is critical to a healthy existence. The pathway up to it, how it opens, what it opens to in regard to room and objects in the room are some of the items reviewed to make up the analysis of the Feng Shui of the front door.

The bedroom is the most important room in the home. You spend one third of your life in it. The bedroom's purpose is to sleep -rest, rejuvenate, and to make love. It should be designed with those two purposes in mind - sleeping and making love! t. The bedroom is the place you should love the most in your home. It is in a sense, your sanctuary, and a safe personal refuge, where you feel comfortable, peaceful, joyous, free, calm, and empowered. The quality and placement of the bed is significant.

In BTB school, the emphasis is once again on the best position for the space not absolute direction. The placement of the bed is simple, while in bed you can view the door from the widest place in the room; the bed is not placed in the direct path of Chi (the path of Chi is the door coming into the bedroom) and do not place your headboard under a window. When you are placed in this position you are in command of your space and your life. If perhaps you must place your bed under a window, due to constraints of bed size, closet doors, etc..., you may use a Feng Shui "Cure" to alter the energy of the window. You can place a crystal in the window space that will stop the flow of energy from leaking out of the bedroom.

The BTB school has many ways to easily, subtly and effectively improve the Feng Shui while keeping with your sense of style, design and comfort. I am currently completely a book just on the bedroom itself. Look at your bedroom again today, and if by chance you do not like or love it by all means change it. Love it today for who you are at the moment. BTB Feng Shui has changed and empowered my life in many ways. It has been an honor and a privilege to help people to do the same all across the United States. I want to thank Professor Lin Yun for bringing this information to the world. I would encourage students and practitioners of Feng Shui to continue to learn about energy and the environment and to help heal and uplift the world room by room, house by house, business by business. We can all make a difference, one day at a time.
