FENG SHUI WOFS helps build a community

As part of its social responsibility, World of Feng Shui (WOFS) Philippines, Inc. has joined forces with Gawad Kalinga (GK), a ‘nation-building’ group dedicated to helping improve the lives of impoverished families in the country. Along with other sponsors, they helped build houses for Pinagsama Village in Western BIcutan, Taguig City.

Last March 30, 2007, the WOFS head office staff led by Ms. Marites Allen went to Pinagsama Village to formally hand over the newly built houses for the said community’s residents. The whole project aims to provide a good jumpstart for the improvement of their lives and their community too. In fact, some have already put up their own general merchandise stores as their family business.

The whole town was in a festive mood that day, and one can only see excitement in the faces of the residents as they receive their new houses.
WOFS Philippines has donated one unit for the village. As the project is still expanding, the WOFS staff also helped out on that day in painting the some of the houses about to be built.

Starting out as a Couples for Christ project aimed to rehabilitate juvenile gangs in Bagong Silang, Caloocan City in 1995, GK has now evolved and extended its mission to other developing countries in dire need of decent housing too. Contrary to what others might think, GK states it does not randomly pick a community, but rather it chooses to award a community whose leaders have nothing but the noblest and sincerest intention to help their constituents.

Incumbent Taguig City Mayor Freddie Tinga and Vice Mayor George Elias were on hand to thank everyone who had devoted their time, money, and efforts for making this dream a reality. Currently, there are four villages named after its sponsors and/or partners, namely: the Poveda GK Village, Fuji Xerox GK Village, Phil-Am Friendship Village, and Makati-West Village. Tinga promises that this would be just the start as the project aims to build 6 more GK villages before the year ends and 30, 000 houses more in ten years in this city.

Aside from WOFS Philippines, also present for the signing of the memorandum of agreement and awarding of units were GK Community Development Foundation’s founders and members. They are: Saint Pedro Poveda Village, Fuji Xerox Philippines, Rotary Culb of Makati-West, Rotary Club of Forbes Park, Rotary Club of Makati-Pasong Tamo, and Rotary Club of Parañaque.
