FENG SHUI Improving Eight Mansions Luck

The Eight Mansions formula is usually used as a personalized method of feng shui. Based on your date of birth, you can calculate your KUA number, and from there work out your good and bad directions. This personalized dimension of the KUA formula however is only one method of using the formula. The KUA formula also divides houses into eight types, and in each type of house, the distribution of luck energies is clearly spelt out. Whether the house is good or bad for individuals depends on their KUA number compatibility with the house, but the house feng shui itself is also affected by the distribution of energy according to the KUA formula.

When we speak of house feng shui, the auspicious and unlucky rooms usually apply to everyone living within the home, irrespective of their individual KUA numbers. However, all houses will always benefit some residents more than others, and this depends on the compatibility of their KUA numbers with the sitting and facing KUA of the house. Irrespective of this, there is a method to ensure that the house itself makes the most of its individualized luck distribution. There are eight different types of houses.

8 types of house charts

Take a good look at the KUA charts of the eight types of houses. The charts here describe a type of luck for each side of a typical house based on the primary and secondary directions of the compass. Altogether, there are 8 types of houses based on the facing direction of the house.

In Eight Mansions, the facing direction of the house is usually the same as the facing direction of the main door. For link houses however, take the direction facing the road to be the facing direction and for apartments such as HDB flats in Singapore, take the facing direction to be the facing direction of your main front door. If your apartment building has a well-defined facing direction and a well-defined main door, you can take that as the facing direction to identify the chart that applies to your house. Once you have determined the facing direction of your home, you can identify which of the eight charts applies to your house.



According to Eight Mansions, it is usually beneficial to have water at the front of the house, since this will always enhance the sheng chi or growth luck of residents. In feng shui, sheng chi means expansion and constant improvement – one’s wealth expanding and one’s rank going higher. But to ensure this, it is necessary to have water near the entrance to the home and this is because you will note that in every house, the sector which always houses the sheng chi luck is the front sector. This type of luck – sheng chi – always benefits from the presence of physical water. The reason for this is because the element equivalent of sheng chi luck is wood, which benefits from the presence of water.

You will also note that the distribution of luck of the different sectors differs from house to house. These charts thus show you the sector s of your house that are lucky and those that are unlucky according to the formula.

The lucky directions are sheng chi, nien yen, tien yi and fu wei. These locations in the home should be enhanced as follows:

• For success luck, tap into the Sheng Chi location which is always at the front of the house.
• For relationship luck (marriage, love, romance) tap the Nien Yen location of your house. Place strong relationship enhancing symbols here and keep this area well lit. The Nien Yen sector benefits from the presence of powerful quartz & amethyst crystals.
• For health luck, tap the Tien Yi location of the house. Place a Wu Lou here. Better yet if the Wu Lou is kept energized with a bright light. This sector benefits from the presence of the Eight Immortals.
• For personal development luck, tap the Fu Wei direction of your house. This part of your home also benefits from having a small water feature. The best types are those with water welling up slowly from stones or rocks. Very auspicious for those studying and wanting to do well at school or university.
  

The unlucky directions are ho hai, wu kwei (five ghosts), lui shar (six killings) and chueh ming (total loss). These locations in the home have the potential to bring misfortune and should be suppressed. If you have a toilet, kitchen or storeroom in these locations, it is excellent as this will press down on the bad luck of the location. Otherwise, you can do as follows:

• To suppress Ho Hai luck, place plants in this sector.
• To suppress Wu Kwei luck, place a container of yin water here. Still water has the power to silence the five ghosts and under certain circumstances water when activated can even cause the five ghosts to bring gold into the home. This is possible only under certain circumstances where the five ghosts are said to be bringing gold to the home.
• To suppress Lui Shar luck, you need a preponderance of earth energy in its location. Keeping the place tiled up or decorated with crystals and stones would be some of the ways to do this. The presence of stones is always a good deterrent for the six killings energy of Eight Mansions feng shui.
• To suppress Chueh Ming luck, you will require the presence of fire energy. Bright lights, candles or red lamps are what are needed to counter the energy of total loss. Do take the threat of Chueh Ming seriously, as its effects are very powerful.
